Hi guys Bianca Andreescu’s Las Vegas odds were 15-1 before the US Open Championships started. Bianca was coming off a win in her home town of Toronto at the Rogers Cup. That was just two weeks before her magical Championship run at the US Open started. She also won the tournament in the Desert of Indian Wells California, in mid March. So needless to say it had already been a banner year for Andreescu, regardless of what was on the horizon for her in New York. Bianca did not arrive at Big Apple with out expectation! Brad Gilbert an analyst for the host Broadcasters ESPN, picked Bianca to win the tournament before it started, and so did I! With the whole Nation of Canada Cheering her on, and watching her every move, this Mississauga Ontario Native was primed and ready for big time! The Bright lights of New York never phased her. She thrived under pressure. She with out a doubt one of most confident tennis players I have women or men. Her belief and her will to win is unmatched Bianca is the Daughter of Romanian Immigrants Maria and Nicu The Family came to Canada in 1994 with two suitcases and not a penny to there name. I believe her confidence and fighting spirit comes her parents and how they raised to become a Champion. Lets take a step back and reflect on her 2019 Us Open journey round by round. in the first round Bianca beat American Player Katie Volleynets 6-2 6-4 with grace and such ease. What an appropriate Volleynets is Tennis player it just made me laugh when I her that name! in round 2 she had beat Kristen Flipkens 6-3 7-5 of Belgium In the third round she rolled past Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark with a 6-4 6-4 victory. That was Bianca’s third straight sets victory in a row! In the round of 16 she faced American Qualifer Taylor Townsend. This was a great battle in front of a very partisan New York crowd. Andreescu won the first easily 6-1 and then Townsend stormed in second set to win 6-4 At this time in the match the Big Apple crowd was rocking, the noise inside Arthur Ashe Stadium was defining. With all that being said Bianca showed her championship metal in the 3rd set and won it 6-2! in Quarter Finals Bianca faced off against Elise Mertens of Belgium. Canada’s Queen of Tennis got off to a very rough start losing the first 6-3 to Mertens. The Native of Belgium really of out played Bianca hitting line after line and drop shot winner after drop shot winner. Bianca quickly regrouped mentally as she always does, by winning the next two sets 6-2 6-3. This Bianca’s second straight 3 set victory at the US Open. In the Semi Finals Andreescu faced off against Belinda Bencic of Switzerland. Bianca won the match in a very tough two set battle lasting over two hours. winning by a score of 7-6 7-5. Now in the Final Bianca the ultimate test of Serena Williams. The Goat of women’s tennis. Bianca came out on fire winning the first set 6-3 seemingly breaking the will of Serena, in the second Bianca was up 5-1 then Williams came to tie it at 5-5 At this point in the match the crowd was incredibly loud in favour of Serena, at one point had put her hands in her ears to block the noise. After Bianca she could hear her self think it was so loud. Despite all that adversity, Bianca showed what a true fighter she is. She amazingly won two games in a row at 5-5 to close out the match! To become Canada’s first ever Grand Singles Champion. In the process Bianca is now ranked a career high of number five the world. She is the first teenager since Maria Sharapova to win grand Slam Singles Title. That was way back in 2006 at US Open. Bianca is also the first player born in the 2000’s to win a Grand Slam Singles Title. What a proud moment for Tennis in Canada. This is the Golden Era for Tennis in Canada!
